WHAT IS SUP YOGA

Sup Yoga is a discipline that involves yoga practice carried out on a stand up paddling board and represents the best way to combine the physical and mental benefits of physical activity in water with the age-old benefits of yoga. It was invented in 2011 in California by Sarah Tiefenthaler, a Yoga teacher and then caught on around the world.

KEY ELEMENTS AND BENEFITS

  • Equilibrium. The main point of contact between Stand Up Paddle and Yoga is represented by the search for balance, an element common to both disciplines. The board is an unstable surface, subject to continuous small oscillations: the effort required to perform a position must therefore be greater and forces the body to call into action even muscles that are generally not involved.

  • Fitness. The results of this activity translate into toned and trained muscles and greater efficiency of the cardiovascular system. The whole body benefits from it in terms of elasticity and energy.

  • Mental well-being. To practice this activity it is necessary to take into consideration the meditative commitment it requires. The search for balance requires great commitment and attention: the ability to concentrate is therefore stimulated and developed, contributing significantly to managing emotions, improving self-esteem and self-awareness.

  • Fun and relaxation. Practicing SUP Yoga is not only challenging and rewarding, but also relaxing and fun. Carrying out an outdoor activity, taking advantage of the beneficial effects of the sun, with the possibility of a dip in the water with a regenerating effect, represents a truly pleasant experience, which relaxes the mind and body and helps to resume daily commitments by releasing the accumulated tension.

PROGRESS

During a SUP yoga lesson the first thing to do is to become familiar with the board; being positioned on a liquid material it will appear like an unstable platform, so listening to yourself is essential to avoid losing balance. Once we have entered into connection with our mental and physical center, we begin to practice Asanas, or yoga postures, in a preparatory manner, therefore from the simplest to the most complex, continuously adapting the body to the movement of the waves and currents. The practice ends with the "shavasana" position during which total physical immobility is sought, allowing oneself to be lulled by the water. This final position allows total harmony with nature, managing to absorb all the energy not only from the inside but also from the outside.

The lessons will take place in the morning or in the evening, when the absence of wind gives a calm and flat sea. The duration is 1 hour.
